Just as the letters of the Alphabet can be combined to form words, the "letters" or symbols of the Periodic Table can be combined to form chemical formulas of molecules. Because we can combine the symbols in a myriad combinations, there are billions of different substances in our world, making it VERY interesting. The workshop explores the Fabulous Four molecules that use single bonds- hydrogen, water, ammonia and methane. We then look at the Terrific Three molecules that use double bonds- oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen. Together these molecules play a central role in our physical world, and also display all four valencies which is wonderful for understanding chemical principles. It's desirable to do Starter Workshop 1 beforehand.
